Following Alice’s Adventures Under Ground huge success last year, I was thrilled to find out Naupaca Dance Factory were back with The Death Of Snow White: A Tragedy In Seven Days. I was even more ecstatic when I got my invitation to attend the press preview at the MCC in Valletta.
The show director and choreographer Joeline Tabone walked out, greeted the press and briefly explained we’d be watching about ten minutes from the whole show and later, check the costumes and get the chance to chat with the cast downstairs. Then there were dancers. Stomping their way out with confidence as if wanting to show us the amount of hard work they put into it. And they did.
The dance is obviously based on the story as told by the Brothers Grimm, but things are changed up to portray the story telling aspect of the fairytale and explore death and its effects through Naupaca Dance Factory’s contemporary dancing. The dancing is sublime, so fluid in transmitting emotions and soaring with technicality – these artists are in their element! Check out more performance pictures below and check back later to see the immaculate costumes Luke Azzopardi crafted for the show, my favourite garment and more.
In the meantime, The Death Of Snow White: A Tragedy In Seven Days is at the Aurora Opera House in Victoria, Gozo on December 1st and at the MCC in Valletta on the 7th and 9th of December. Tickets are available from Aurora Box Office and the MCC website here.
