Just when I thought Paris Fashion Week and fashion month were over and I’d have 6 months of long over-dramatic rants to wait for another barrage of fashion mania, something starting shining head first (pun intended) on my Twitter feed. All hope wasn’t lost – fashion month was getting a rather appropriate curtain close – the Miu Miu Autumn/Winter 2012 show. Is it the same quirky feminine Miu Miu? Miuccia says no.
Upon seeing the first David Bowie’d up models rolling down the runway, it’s well apparent that Miuccia moved away from skirts and onto pants for next season in both her Prada and Miu Miu offerings. Trapped somewhere between the sixties and the seventies, the two-piecers were hued blue, mustard and everything in between – also in all-over Art Nouveau flower print over matching seventies collared shirts. How Miu Miu fangirls will respond to this sudden butch turn away from dresses and skirts is another story.
There had to be some classic ‘Miu Miu’ in there somewhere and it came in the form of bedazzled mirrored appliqué at the end of the show, and a ton of it too. Appliqué so big that the Miu Miu girl can see the reflection of people on the mirrors on her own dress.
And with that ode to menswear, the fashion week madness is a wrap. I have enough material to dream about for the next 6 months thanks to Prada, Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga and now Miu Miu. And come September, the dreaming starts all over again.
