Reinvention. The thing Miuccia does best. While other designers play around the same themes, Prada flips the page and starts a new chapter each season all while keeping that unmistakeable quirky ‘Prada-ness’. You instantly know it’s ‘Prada’ upon seeing it whether it’s a monkey, a golf club or a…Geisha?! Come 2013 it’s a flowery Japanese trip, extremely reminiscent of Miuccia’s work from the mid-nineties. Kimono-style structured silk and floral appliqué were a heavy part of the collection, hued black to navy to white, red and a glitzy pearly pink. Then came the shoes if that’s even an appropriate way of calling them. Leather socks with leather ribbons tied at the top made half of the footwear while Japanese wooden thongs (yep you read that right…) made the other half. They even came in super high versions with crazy Prada embellishment. The Prada shoe mind games have returned and I envision next year’s street style will be rather klick klack-ety with wooden flatforms.
