It’s safe to say The Death of Snow White: A Tragedy in Seven Days blew me away! I liked Naupaca’s showing last year a lot but this was a huge artistic step up. The passion, emotion, technique, routines, plot, set – everything was sublime. A lot of you may not know but there’s another reason why Naupaca Dance Factory’s productions are so dear to me. It’s because all of it hails from Gozo. Surprise surprise the neglected Gozo offers some extraordinary artists! Artists like Yosef Farrugia – who stepped in Stepan Pechar’s Prince shoes due to unforeseen health issues for the last show at the MCC and learned the whole thing an hour before showtime and act 2 during the intermission. That my friends is a mark of a real artist.
Hats off to the director and choreographer Joeline Tabone, Deborah Agius for doubling as the Queen and production manager, Luke Azzopardi for his ethereal production design and costumes, Maria Theuma’s script and Lukas Grech’s original music score, and all the dancers and behind-the-scenes people that helped make this production a reality. I wish I could name you all but that would push this towards the 1000 word mark ha! Well done guys and hope to see you next year with yet another contemporary masterpiece!
